Local Density Approximation
It happens often, that properties of a homogeneous system are well known (e.g. the
homogeneous model is exactly solvable, or numerical calculation has been done), but
the properties of the system in an external field are not known. If number of
particles is large enough one can refer to the local density approximation in
order to obtain the desired properties.
