METHODS OF APPROXIMATION

1st module

Prof. Alberto Valli

A.A. 1998/99

PROGRAMME

The first part of the course is concerned with the numerical solution of linear algebraic systems (direct and iterative methods, gradient and conjugate gradient iterations), with the approximation theory by means of finite elements and by the basic ideas of the numerical approximation of linear partial differential equations by the Galerkin method.

The second part of the course deals with the numerical approximation of elliptic, advection-diffusion, parabolica and hypoerbolic equations by means of the finite element Galerkin method.
